How are Naturopathic Doctors different from MDs?

Like Medical Doctors, Naturopathic Doctors are trained extensively in clinical sciences and diagnostics. The primary difference is that Naturopathy focuses on the whole person, and seeks to identify and treat the underlying imbalances, rather than addressing health issues in isolation.

Most importantly, Naturopathic Doctors treat health conditions with safe and effective natural therapies that the body can process easily. Pharmaceutical drugs and surgery are recommended when needed, and often they can be prevented and/or worked in conjunction with supportive natural medicines to speed your healing.

Can Dr. Wynsome prescribe medications?

Yes. Dr. Wynsome is a Washington State Licensed Naturopathic Physician, which grants her prescriptive rights. She does prefer to use natural and botanical medicines whenever possible, but she can have a pharmacy fill prescriptions as warranted.

Water's Edge has an extensive in-house professional dispensary that carries high quality, doctor-reviewed nutritional medications, including all types of bio-identical hormones, orthomolecular medicines, thyroid, and botanicals. Learn more...

What happens during my first visit?

Prior to your first visit, we'll ask you to complete an extensive questionnaire packet about your medical history, symptoms and anything you want the doctor to know, along with any medications you're currently taking. From that, Dr. Wynsome conducts a comprehensive review and prepares a Personalized Health Rebuilding Workbook for you.

During your initial consultation, she will discuss your medical history and current health issues, provide diagnostic and treatment recommendations, and give you an estimate on the costs of any follow-up visits and/or lab testing that she recommends to help heal your condition. Learn more...

What should I bring with me?

If you have copies of previous medical records or labwork results, please bring them to your first visit (or when relevant).

If you are coming in for cranio-sacral therapy, please either bring or wear loose clothing so you can comfortably access a full range of motion.

How many visits will I need?

The frequency of your office visits depends on the nature of your condition and how long it has been present. Each patient has an individualized healthcare plan that is created according to his/her needs.

Initially, patients may need to come more frequently so adjustments and fine-tuning can be made to their care plan depending on their symptoms.

Do you sell natural medicines?

Yes. Water's Edge has a complete professional dispensary of high quality natural medicines, such as homeopathic remedies, botanical medicines, bio-identical hormones, vitamins and minerals, and metabolic cleansing formulas. We provide you the best products at the best price, and as they are prescriptions, there is no sales tax.

I don't like pills; are there other options?

Absolutely. Many herbs, supplements, vitamins, and cleansing formulas come in liquid or powder form, if you're more comfortable with that. Nutritional and lifestyle changes may improve your health as well.

What types of tests does Dr. Wynsome use?

Dr. Wynsome uses a wide range of diagnostic tests for determining deficiencies, dysfunction, and disease. Typically, the tests examine blood, urine, stool, and/or saliva. Some of the tests are conducted in the office, while others are take-home tests you can do on your own. The home tests are easy to use, and each includes detailed instructions on how and when to do it, what not to eat/drink, etc. Results are analyzed by specialized labs outside Dr. Wynsome's office.

In your Personalized Health Rebuilding Workbook, you'll find helpful descriptions of lab tests and what the results mean. Dr. Wynsome also provides a detailed Report of Findings after physical exams, and carefully explains your results.

When do I pay for office visits and lab tests?

All office visits and lab testing is payable in full at the time of your office visit. For lab tests, that includes lab specimens collected here at the office or take-home test kits. See also info on our fees and clinic policies.

What kinds of fees can I expect?

Office visit fees can run anywhere from $90.00 up to $200.00 depending on the type and length of visit.

Lab testing can be done in-house and/or sent to local or specialized outside labs for processing. Lab test fees can run anywhere from $12.00 up to $450.00, such as for a Comprehensive Cardio-Vascular Risk Panel. Learn more...

Does Dr. Wynsome accept health insurance?

Dr. Wynsome is "out-of-network", which means she is not contracted to directly bill your insurance provider. Office visits are payable in full at the time of your visit, and we provide you with a "coded" insurance "superbill" that you can submit to your insurance company to seek reimbursal.

Why is Dr. Wynsome “out-of-network"?

Dr. Wynsome's two decades of experience in the naturopathic approach to healing includes a variety of alternative therapies and very personalized attention to help educate and support each patient. For most insurance companies, this extra case is deemed "prevention and well-being services" and outside their usual range of disease treatment coverage.

Additionally, insurance providers have many restrictions on which services and tests can be offered, which would dramatically limit our options for effective functional diagnosis and treatment. Working independently of insurance companies allows us to provide the best and latest solutions available for helping you regain optimal health.

How do I find out if I'm covered for this care?

Contact your medical insurance company and ask specific questions, including (but not limited to):

a) What is my "out-of-network" coverage? (50%, 60%…)
b) Do I need a PCP referral?
c) Do I have a deductible to cover?
d) Do I have "out-of-network" coverage for lab testing (blood, urine, saliva) - not billed by the lab but by the doctor's office?
